Gloria Lenoff
Gloria has Williams Syndrome, a developmental
disability that is much less recognized than the other chromosome
deficient disability, Down syndrome. She also shares a common thread
with many who have WS, she is a musical savant. Despite her inability to
either read or write music, Gloria can sing in 26 languages and has a
repertoire of about 2,700 songs. She can also accompany herself on the
accordion.
As she tours the country (and world) she is often
accompanied by her father, Dr. Howard Lenhoff, perhaps one of the most
recognized non-medical authorizes on WS. Together they present a short
educational program about the disability and a more lengthy and
entertaining concert that demonstrates Gloria’s ability to command
audiences from concert halls to college campuses. She has performed with
full symphony orchestras and has given many solo performances. Her
concerts repertoire includes classical, gospel, contemporary and
religious selections. In recent months she has toured with another
person with WS who accompanies her on the piano.
Gloria’s story has been featured in newspapers
and magazines throughout the country. In 2000 she was part of a ”Sixty
Minutes” segment. She and her parents are the driving force behind the
development of a summer music camp specifically for those with Williams
Syndrome.
